His position is unrecoverable. Much of the PLP who gave him a chance have given up on him. His friends are now silent. The changing room is gone. It’s just a question of who tells him and when. Remember when Thatcher was told to go. Will Rachel Reeves have her Jeffrey Howe momment.

Just out of interest … how is he doing a bloody good job. Just wondering.

Look at it another way, Streeting sets out his stall as an effective politician showing that he can appear loyal and honest while demonstrating he very capable and could do a better job.

A strong personable, communicator who connects with the public, can win arguments, set the agenda, lead, anticipate issues and has charisma. Starmer has qualities but he is in the wrong job.

I am not describing anyone, just pointing out Starmer’s inadequacies. And yes game show hosts do have some points in common with effective politicians. Look at Trump. It’s a reality, like it or not.
November 12, 2025 at 8:11 AM
Yep: your are very right. But the key question is whether anybody else could do a worse job than Starmer in this context. He is a poor communicator, seems to lack empathy, is detached, disconnected, dislikes media attention and does not have political radar. Just not the person for the job.

I guess you are right, but sometimes in a fight, and I have been in a few, you have to drop your guard and let your aggression and power rip. Hit them very hard before they can hit you. It’s all about timing and opportunity. I don’t think Starmer has been in many fights.
November 11, 2025 at 7:57 AM
You are right, but the issue is the response. I very much doubt whether Starmer’s few, very carefully chosen words is good enough.
November 11, 2025 at 7:30 AM
The key points are 3.5 years and clueless Starmer. If Starmer survives the May elections, I will be a doughnut. They key issue is to formulate the approach of a post Starmer government and it’s time to do the ground work now.

I don’t hear respect, just contempt. As to the fake past. My mother, one of nine, went through the war. I can remember how she and particularly her brothers who served, told their elder children how it really was when they heard fake nonsense invented in the media. Sadly, they took no notice.

Yes, like my white extended working class family. But they are dying off. Things are also more complicated than the crude analogies as I watch racist grand parents come to terms with mixed race grand children. Ok they want to dwell on the sentiment of a fake past, but they are not the future.

Always something so simple, with so much dignity, so appropiate, but in my experience, now ignored by many including myself as the right have taken it over and it has lost what matters.
November 9, 2025 at 11:05 AM
That don’t : but they are sick death of patronising, lecturing placemen (women) telling them what they should think and ignoring their prejudices. Popularism is a function of useless politicians who live on another planet to their constituents. To$$ers, as they say.

But when the organ grinder is clueless and the monkey delights in taking control of tune selection, what do you do? Accountability, blame… nah, who cares, it’s the music which really matters.

So ? He is still an appalling politician and hopeless leader. Politics is about power, engagement, communication, convincing, leading, charisma, empathy, not just managing policy.

Dead man walking - every body knows it. More an administrator, never a politician. The Labour Party ( if it still exists) will breathe a sigh of relief when he has gone.

Poison filters through many minds in different levels in different ways. My old Aunt used to moan about all these blacks coming over here to her neighbour, and best friend. Her friend was black. You have to purge the poison. Or better, deal with the people who use it, promote it for their own ends.
