Grateful for the amazing reception we got to our @vetsaboutface.bsky.social talk at this year's @socialismconference.org!! We've received several requests for publishing our full talk/zine + doing a webinar. We're working on making the zine public and doing a podcast/webinar in the near future!

@vetsaboutface.bsky.social is hosting a session at the @socialismconference.org! Aaron Hughes and I will be speaking on the history of using the military to enact state violence, and the history of GI resistance. We have zines to give out for at least the first 30 people that attend!

Came across this in my writing/research today. An excerpt of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's last speech. This line especially is a stark reminder in this moment: "We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage."

Here's a teary-eyed picture of me and Rep. Cori Bush after finding out that POTUS and the CDC were going to extend the eviction moratorium. How Cori showed up for us is something I'll never forget. St. Louis and Cori Bush rose to incredible heights. Cori showed us what LOVE in action looks like ❤️

I also had the opportunity to go to DC with About Face: Veterans Against the War last year, and organize the Vets for Ceasefire campaign. We gave a press conference with Reps. Cori Bush & Summer Lee. Vets then organized a direct action and got arrested protesting in Sen. Gillibrand's office.

What Rep. Cori Bush showed us (and by us I mean ALL of us, but especially people who have/are holding elected office), was how to show up without fragmenting yourself. I took these two pictures in her office. That is who she brought into the halls of Congress - revolutionaries and organizers.

I was traveling to DC for a college visit w/ my oldest when I learned about the sit-in. I hadn't known about it or planned to go before the sit-in was announced. We sat on those steps in the hot, rainy DC summer, chanting, bird-dogging Congresspeople, and getting the word out.

I've had the great privilege of being present for two organizing moments w/ Rep. Bush and her team. The first was the a sit-in to extend the eviction moratorium. Rep. Bush staged a sit-in, sleeping on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, demanding that POTUS protect ppl during the pandemic.

Sending love to @coribush.bsky.social who gave her final floor remarks today as a member of U.S. Congress. No one has ever done it like her - an organizer, a movement-first Congress person who used her office to cogovern, putting people and the movement first, before party or politics.

@jphillll.bsky.social essay on the murder of the UnitedHealth CEO is worth every single second of your time - this part especially. This essay reminds me of David Stovall's concept of longitudinal violence-the long and steady violence of the state #RacialCapitalism www.jphilll.com/p/whats-a-li...

I served in the U.S. Army from 2000-2006. I understand firsthand how the U.S. directly creates and expands conflicts worldwide. If you're a veteran, sign this petition and contact your senator today to call for an arms embargo on Israel actionnetwork.org/petitions/ve...
