Our lovely neighbour, with whom we share a garden. Does anyone know if you can tell if a #pinemartin is male or female? And do they have a daily routine or route (or do I just happen to look out the window at 8.30 every day?)

Ok Bluesky, I'm finally going to attempt homemade seitan.
Any tips or advice?

What makes us think we have the right to continue this practice?

A plant-based food system would end the suffering, significantly decrease our greenhouse gas emissions, and free up space for nature.

But for now, I'm looking forward to going back and hanging out with the sanctuary piggies again.

Like all forms of animal agriculture, pig farming contributes to wildlife habitat destruction, as ancient (rain)forests are cleared to grow feed. 80% of global soy production goes to animals raised for human food, most of it to poultry and pigs.

We hear so much about how cows contribute to the climate crisis. And they do. But all 'modern' animal agriculture has terrible consequences not just for those beings we rear and kill for food, but for climate and biodiversity.

Let's consider pig 'production'.

Went with Animal Rebellion Ireland on a work day at the My Lovely Pig rescue the other day. Met these beauties and had some thoughts about humans, nature and non-human animals.

Evening in Sligo.

Animal & climate justice group Animal Rebellion Ireland are in Dublin today to highlight Ireland’s lack of action on biodiversity despite a 73% drop in global wildlife in just 50 yrs. They are calling on the Government to protect habitats by funding a transition to a plant-based food system.

Had a wonderful day at the Sathya Sai Donkey Sanctuary in Sligo recently. 86 beauties living their best life. Wanted to bring them all home 😁🥰

Pumpkins coming along in the tunnel. These are a tiny type called Jack Be Little. Grown on a trellis to save space and keep slugs at bay. We grow parsley and coriander in the shade underneath.

Two old giants fell in our garden during Storm Isha. Having stood guard at the boundary between garden and fields for nearly a centuary, their time had come. We were lucky though, as our buildings, polytunnel and apple trees all survived. Hope everyone else got through the storm ok.
