None of my opinions are my own. I don’t follow back. I block anyone stupid enough to follow me.
Enola Gay wouldn’t be allowed in the airforce under these two.

No mention of Matt Wells in the coaching structure? Or Burch? I thought they were still around. If so, where do they fit?

Slightly before my time too but commentators frequently referred to him visiting the fun fair on his way round Tattenham Corner. In those days the fun fair was over the road. Freddie Head rode him I think and our commentators seemed to have universally poor opinions of French jockeys ever since.

Lyphard has a lot to answer for but maybe that was before your time.

Interesting given the immediate reaction to Calandagan’s defeat last week. Maybe it was a pretty good race and not a terrible ride by Barzalona after all.

I live about a mile from the course at Epsom. The thing about the watering is that rain was forecast all week. I was surprised the going wasn’t even softer for the Oaks and they were lucky the rain came late for the Derby. Forecasts earlier in the week were for more rain than we actually got.

32 out of the last 36 domestic trophies have been won by the 5 richest clubs. In the last decade Man U, badly run so we are told, have still won 5 major trophies. Sadly money conquers everything. But it isn’t what our owners do. We can’t consistently compete for top 4 without top 4 money.

I didn’t say it was yours but surely some fact checking ought to take place before articles are published in a national newspaper. It’s one thing making simple errors on Twitter or BlueSky but it shouldn’t happen in a serious publication.

The article in your paper about the 6 possible replacements for Ange describes Frank as “The Austrian”. (See below). Hard to take opinions seriously if the basic facts are incorrect.
June 7, 2025 at 12:06 PM
The problem is that there isn’t an outstanding, obvious replacement. We’re looking at coaches whose major achievement is a mid table finish. The board claim we should compete on multiple fronts but are about to appoint a coach who has never had to compete on multiple fronts. Does that make sense?
June 7, 2025 at 11:43 AM
There may be a strong case for sacking him. Unfortunately there isn’t a very strong case for his likely replacement. The official statement blames his inability to compete on multiple fronts. So we are about to appoint a coach who has never had to compete on multiple fronts. It makes little sense.

I could understand it if there was a strong replacement but I don’t see it with Frank. He’s competent, done decent job to stabilise Brentford but he has no experience of the kind of season coming up for us. Hardly any experience of European football at all. It’s shooting ourselves in the foot.
June 6, 2025 at 4:06 PM
There will only be a statement if he’s sacked. If he is going to continue I would be amazed if Levy made a statement. It just not his way. For over 20 years he has said as little as possible. I don’t see that changing now.

Maybe they are waiting to see if they are going to offer you the manager’s job.

My dad liked a bet so I was aware of the Derby since the 50s but the 1st Derby I saw live was Grundy’s. It was the Grundy-Bustino race that hooked me. Although he liked a bet my dad didn’t know the difference between Shergar and Red Rum.
June 4, 2025 at 7:55 AM
I became interested in racing a few years before Shergar’s derby. Obviously I’m wrong but it seems to me that Aga Khan has had about 40 horses called Azimpour since then.
June 3, 2025 at 8:59 PM
I don’t think Frank or Silva would currently command support from the fans. Letting Ange continue makes sense. If it goes t*ts up they could sack him then and fans would support it. Alternatively he might adopt a system which exposes the defence less. A more progressive version of the Europa form.

Why? Do you think this is a sign of bigger changes to come ?
June 2, 2025 at 10:29 AM
I was 12 when Spurs did the double. It’s before you were born but in those days people thought the double was impossible, which is why they were considered a great team. Now it’s commonplace because the same teams win all the trophies year after year.

It must be a strange world being a young backup goalkeeper. He’s 26 looking for a new job but has virtually no experience to offer another club and hasn’t played a competitive game for 3 years. So how do you go about getting a new club? Go on trial somewhere? Austin in a similar position.

I used to live in a cul-de-sac but I got out before the stigma scarred me for life.
May 29, 2025 at 7:20 PM
It’s a real pity that he has never been fit enough to get a proper run of games. A much better player than many give him credit for but there is no evidence that he is consistent goal scorer. 13 PL goals in 35 games is his best return.

We walked to Chatsworth. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t know about the Duke of Devonshire’s racing colours, which is a shame. It seems Beeley has been sold to George Boughey,
May 26, 2025 at 7:58 PM
Is it good for birds? We stayed in Beeley last summer and didn’t see very much.
May 26, 2025 at 7:19 PM
50 points still only gets us to 13th in the league. Is that acceptable? I don’t think so. Behind Fulham, Brentford, Palace among others.
