The new AP Comp Sci maintains what I think is defective ordering, starting with the connection between booleans and other values via comparison, moving to control structures, then backwards to boolean expressions.

I think Ebert's own hobby horse of film as a medium created empathy pushed me away from the idea. I've seen plenty of folks without empathy watch movies and simply not engage with the idea that the filmmakers have forced them to inhabit another viewpoint. They didn't climb to the outer circles

I would entertain LLM usage only if using models pretrained on ethically sourced data such as the Common Corpus token collection, and even then only in limited contexts since most usage runs completely orthogonal to the purpose of a liberal education. I feel strongly enough about the ethical and pedagogical implications that if LLM usage was made a condition of my employment I would leave.  Just a few days ago the parents of a young man filed suit against OpenAI. The suit claims that ChatGPT pushed their son towards suicide. When he told ChatGPT that he'd like to leave the noose in his closet so someone would notice and help him, the model told him to hide it. He killed himself.  That's obviously an outlier but if we consider the more common case of encountering bias, such as the gender bias uncovered in "Surface Fairness, Deep Bias: A Comparative Study of Bias in Language Models" (arXiv:2506.10491) can we really expect high school students to have the cognitive development to correct for an unquantifiable and unknowable amount of upstream bias? Or have we actually elevated gender, racial, and other biases by extending them the imprimatur of machine impartiality no matter how much we warn them about bias? I suspect the answer is the latter.  The meta analyses that have come out this year with positive outlooks for AI are riddled with issues and errors, sometimes even typographical. I view them not as science but as devices to farm citations from a hot topic. Wang & Fan and Deng et al. specifically are very poor quality papers. In general the rush of interest since ChatGPT debuted has totally sidestepped the established history and techniques of studies on AI in education. Many of the individual studies are simply defective or overstate their results.  Specific ML usages are case by case in my opinion but I remain bullish on their usage specifically in computational sciences like protein folding.

Physicists are more handsome, that's number one so jot that down. The real number one is that physics tends to be one degree more abstract and fundamental than chemistry, which is one degree more practical. An example of this is that issues of chirality and helicity - the left or right handedness of our universe - come up in both fields but only physicists are obsessive about them. The other differences I'll mention are rooted in this. Physics likes broad, mathematical models and chemistry likes practical, empirical ones. Physics loves questions of relativity because finding those quantities invariant between different observers makes us feel we've found something more true or fundamental to the universe. These invariants yield conservation laws and Chemistry again cares about them because of practicality - they let you predict if, how fast, etc. a reaction happens.
