Here's the leaderboards had this existed in 2023 (when @yellowhat.bsky.social led the way at 17-6-1) and 2024 (when @simonnielsenmtg.bsky.social put up a 20-4!). Top 16 was a clean cut at 42MP in 2023, but the 45s went down to 18th place in 2024. Both years 1+ person was top 16 without all 8 drafts.

Another day in the life of a Magic data scraper... (alt text for clarity)

@smdster.bsky.social has the longest streak of cuts made at consecutive events: 16 PTs, everything from PT Dominaria in 2018 to the present.

As such, Sam is one of 9 players to have made all nine cuts since the pandemic. The full list is pictured.

ggs Ben! Very similar here, about two hours of work after this to finish a couple mementos. Glad Hades 2 gave me an excuse to stop because I was already starting to think about the 100%-in-30-hours achievement.

Celeste is just the fucking best.

I've been trying to clear this room FOREVER. Probably spent like seven or eight hours on it a while ago and gave up, then another three hours or so this week. Finally got it. I could cry.

One of my like top five favorite things about life on planet Earth is happening this afternoon at 4:27pm Eastern at GDQ (twitch.tv/gamesdonequick) — incredible Mario players sight-reading custom levels. If you haven't ever watched something like this before, I cannot recommend this enough.

Thanks to all who watched SS Chiba with us last weekend! Here's the answers to the props sheet. A number of people got 8/10, including @jkyu06.bsky.social and @seangoddard.bsky.social. I'll be back with the RC in the fall!

Mark Stanton played 10 Prowess mirrors at the Pro Tour. O_O

Holy crap, my NES works, and the game works, and it held the names of my party members after being off for a few minutes. We may be in business. I've never played this game before. Maybe I'll check it out on stream in July?

This came in the mail today... what are the chances that the battery still works after 35 years?

Mainly Pixie, yeah.

I don't have a definitive answer to this, but among cards that 10+ people registered, it was #3 in average match points per pilot. It's one of five such cards that can claim to have made day 2.

Here's
(a) the complete breakdown of winrates by Drake Hatcher quantity and location (locations is (main, side));
(b) data chunked by number of copies main (ignoring side);
(c) data chunked by number of copies registered (ignoring location),
(d) data chunked by "yes copies main" vs "no copies main".

A small one. Enough that I probably wouldn't test very long with 20. Not shockingly, people who shaved lands also shaved Stock Ups, so if you believe that card is good in the deck, maybe that's partially to explain the performance. Though maybe the 20-landers didn't shave enough of them?
May 11, 2025 at 3:37 PM
Eight players made day 2 with 3-4 copies of at least one card that nobody else in the event registered. There were 11 such cards among maindecks. Gotta give a shoutout to the 4x Aegis Turtle sideboard plan.

Pop quiz: What do Spectral Denial, Shadow-Rite Priest, and Market Gnome do?

Question: if you somehow manage to register a version of a card that's been nerfed for alchemy in a paper event, do you have to play the card with the nerf?
May 9, 2025 at 11:00 PM
Oh no I totally lost track of this ;_; Sorry!

RC Tokyo is this weekend. You know the drill—late-night English commentary on twitch.tv/ajlvi is on the menu!
• Day 1 stream starts with round 4, Sat 1am EDT / 5am UTC, joined by @alexanderjmaier.bsky.social
• Day 2 stream starts Sat 8pm EDT / 12am UTC, joined by Przemyslaw Olszewski for top8
May 2, 2025 at 3:19 AM
Fun question. Locations is (main, side).
April 29, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Results from RC Bologna for prowess players, stratified by number of Stock Ups registered (main+side). I treated anyone who registered both Monastery Swiftspear and Stormchaser's Talent as a prowess player. Draw from this what you will.

Before we get too deep into April, here's a brief summary of what was popular in MTGO leagues in March. Stock Up cracks the legacy top 20, and the Standard bounce package has shown up more and more in Pioneer. Standard itself is... very red. I'll be curious to see post-ban Modern in a month's time.

Advice to me from me 15 years in the future: spend a little less time hoarding BBB coupons and a little more time hoarding Magic cards...
