The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill).

Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill).

Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)

Tonight’s project: using the dried flowers and seed heads from this year’s garden to make a wreath.

Made dinner: a cottage pie (not a shepherd’s pie because made with beef not lamb) and a fake-meat version for me. What to call it? Hippy commune pie? Overcrowded-student- apartment-at-an-east-coast-liberal-arts-school pie?

Our cat sits at the screen door and waits for the mail person every morning. The storm doors go in this weekend and he is gonna be so sad!
