Now is the time to focus on decentralization. Social media platforms should not be controlled by a handful of oligarchs. I highly encourage everyone to look into the AT ( #BlueSky ) and ActivityPub ( #Mastodon, #PixelFed ) protocol based apps that use independent but connected servers.

Some people are saying TikTok has already sold to or agreed to sell to Meta. Others say nothing has happened and Bytedance still won’t sell. No one knows right now. What we do know is this sets a dangerous precedent and no matter what, TikTok won’t be the same moving forward.

We must continue to organize and build community. We must not let this stop the messaging and communication we built on TikTok. Together we rise!

While this isn’t the first time the government has moved to censor and silence us, I do believe and hope this will be a tipping point for all of us. We cannot let our elected officials continue to chip away at our rights; we cannot continue to let oligarchs buy our government to our detriment.

It was about how millions of people were able to break away from the corporate grind and make a living on their own terms. It was about us, en masse and regardless of politics, voicing our disdain for how they operate. It was and always will be about the power and control we took away from them.

communities we found, the organizing we did, how we shifted the narrative on topics related to Palestine, pulled back the curtains on how they operate, and exposed blatant hypocrisy of their actions. It was never about China having our data or national security concerns. It was about us, the people.

Shits about to get a lot worse for marginalized communities. Already have to deal with TikTok going away, Meta rolling back fact checking and allowing hate content towards lgbtq and Black and Brown folks, and now this!

That’s most people in the US. Goes back to post WW2, the red scare, and the cold war. The gov. dove into propaganda against communism and even altered education, conducted psyops, and aided in coups to overthrow socialist/communist govs. It’s also why god messages were added to the pledge/money/etc.

The U.S. is probably one of the best (used to be 🤔) propaganda machines in the world. It’s why they push a narrative that other countries that have socialist and communist views are bad. They don’t want us to see what governments can/should do for its citizenry. It’s also why they banned TikTok.
