Five soldiers were shot during a shooting at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia, officials said.

The U.S. Army base was placed under lockdown at about 11 a.m. but has now been lifted. The incident occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has died. He was 100.

Chip Carter, a son of the former president, said his father died about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday in his Plains home.

Carter, who lived longer than any other U.S. president, entered hospice care in February 2023 bit.ly/4fLAEA0
