I was planning to go, but opted out given the very high cost and *politics*. Anecdotally, I heard from many other Europe-based people they also chose to attend conferences elsewhere

Maybe "intelligence" does not mean much at all and is instead a historical term very loaded with all kinds of connotations and prejudices, but no objective definition.

Reject intelligence, and I would say the problem/question simply goes away

I'm worried about outsourcing to a machine something that's part of our common endeavour to figure out the world. It's not enough that stuff is figured out, it's about **us** figuring it out! I don't remember phone numbers anymore – I outsourced that to my phone. I don't want that for my science.

Fair enough! My references are the talks I have seen by Eve. Much remains to be understood and I agree that we are nowhere near uploading 86 billion neurons to a computer, I don't think it will ever happen tbh

I think it is very disingenious to say Eve Marder does not know how the rhythm is created. They found many different configurations that can create the rhythm, they studied how temperature disrupts some configurations more than others... They know **a lot** about these rhythms.
