(Ok, this is probably more of a meme rather than a genuine common misunderstanding but it tickles me)

Is another factor that Twitter may well have a huge number of bots talking to bots (astroturfing or brigading, depending on the flavour of puppetmaster) so the higher Twitter "engagement" is deceptive vs. real users elsewhere (I appreciate size of Twitter means this wouldn't be enough by itself)

In terms of post-mortem reviews, more thorough data analysis and dissections will come early next year, but some of the better pieces on what went wrong point to low-information voters attributing inflation to Biden and voting based on the cost of living (an anti-incumbent trend seen elsewhere too)

I agree with you, in this instance I think the sheer resources of Musk, Thiel, Sachs etc will sway of the policy direction for this topic. But the incompatibility will fester and it remains to be seen how the non-tech MAGA base organises. Bannon wading in against Vivek surprised and intrguied me...

The inherent contradictions between what the techno-bro-crats want and what grassroots MAGA-types want will result in this alot. The former were happy to inflame the latter to win but cannot deliver something which pleases all. In this case, I think Elon will "win" by deleting critics' accounts.

The enabling of anti-immigration pieces by commentators/glorified pot-stirrers devoid of facts by similar media types has caused huge damage over time. They were willing to indulge such sentiments to be able to cynically promote parties that have adjacent positions they liked on tax and regulation.
