I think it depends on your airline as well but United has done a good job of giving info ahead of time to lessen the potential for getting stuck at the airport with unexpected delays. that said, I'd rather take the train when I can!

I flew on Friday very smoothly, no issues—my flight home today is delayed a couple hours (to give the flight crew a legally sufficient break time, I assume b/c of delays elsewhere) but I got notice a day ahead of time so I didn't have to wait around at the airport. seems to be on track otherwise!
