Great post and great example using The Mall. I grew up in Fort McMurray and once a year we'd make the treacherous trip south. I remember feeling the dragon's fire warm my face and feeling the fear flood my veins and the sound of it's roar (I hated that thing as a kid lol).

The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch is a time-travel murder mystery. It feels like season 1 of True Detective, but Sci-Fi and weird.

Also, Diamond Dogs by Alastair Reynolds is a deeply unsettling story about exploring an alien tower on an unexplored planet.

Time to go gift even more of my friends this game lol
