He goes on to say that flu is not spread through environmental contamination - it's hard to give that a pass (birds primarily spread through GI tract, not respiratory)

It's also hard to take the farm owners seriously about not killing ostriches for the ostriches sake

Excellent initiative

I worry that there will be a lot of talk about fossil fuels - but little talk about #animal agriculture - also a leading cause of climate change and environmental degradation

- despite the fact that doctors should be advocating for healthy, climate forward diets...

Meanwhile cows with H5N1 have spread it to people and other animals...

and this?

Which, at least for me, also begs the question, why have hundreds of large African birds crowded together in a fenced yard up there in BC, and do we really want to be continuing this trend... 👇

Yeah - I was thinking that - that CFIA wouldn't tolerate semi-immune ostriches, even if multiple repeated PCR neg

With all the HPAI around (and even just AI), I am also not crazy about the idea of culling and then a green light and $1.5 million to stock...

For chickens on a large/crowded farm facing >90% mortality - culling/euthanasia ✔️

For cows - maybe not, despite public health risk

For ostriches - *with responsible owners - seems reasonable to consider modified strategies- like S Africa - although the ostriches get killed in the end, for meat(?)👇

But, no consideration of reducing the tens of billions of chickens and pigs that we breed, confine and slaughter?

The numbers of animals we breed, confine and slaughter keeps getting higher (even as it's more and more clear that we don't need to be breeding and eating so many animals)...

I am thinking that both issues matter - the origins of the virus and the impacts of the disease itself - and both need to be addressed

It matter where it came from, because we need to make changes to reduce the chances of that happening again (trying to avoid SARS-CoV3)...

Right - and lying to people, telling them MMR vaccine contains "aborted fetus debris", is another one of his moves to restore trust in vaccines

I am not sure what article you are referring to. Yes, all minks were killed - but most were killed for their fur

3 fur farms in BC had documented infections

This is a good article on what happened 👇

Do you have any evidence of H5N1 infection in beef cattle?
June 4, 2025 at 4:01 AM
- "there has been cattle-to-poultry, cattle-to-peridomestic bird, and cattle-to-other mammal transmission"

- there have also been 41 confirmed human cases of H5N1 infection linked to exposure to dairy cattle herds

Does that change things for you?

I think her heart's in the right place

On their website, they acknowledge ostriches as individuals, each with their own unique personalities

Re H5N1 risk, reasonable to question the need to kill them

Notably these ostriches have been getting vaccinated against COVID

Good question

Based on their website, it seems like this farm may be opposed to slaughter of ostriches for meat and financial gain

These ostriches are respected individuals, each with their own unique personalities - and have been getting vaccinated against COVID

If considering very particular cases (that are no longer offered) - then, maybe, as an example- Dengvaxia, specifically for a seronegative child - the dotted blue line....

- the scale and urgency of these recent depopulation events have left room for worker protections to fall through the cracks

- review of thousands of pages of inspection records and conversations with dozens of people who work behind the scenes has revealed 👇

Yes - there are ways to raise animals in humane ways, most animals we eat for food don't get that treatment

Bizarre comment about the jungle, I definitely don't think humans should behave like wild animals

Few wild animals left, even in the jungle - nowadays most animals are "food animals" 👇

Long known to be linked with hunting wild animals, knowing the particular animal may attract more attention

Am thinking it should highlight the need to address food insecurity - particularly in regions with "high risks" for pathogens like MPox, Ebola, etc...

What if it's accepted as standard practice by industry and gov't representatives? How to change?

NFACC standards - accepted by consensus by Humane Canada - include electrically shocking cows unable to stand, killing foxes with anal electrocution, and electric shocking goats to make them ejaculate

I don’t really see promoting the “safe handling of wild-animal meat” - as a serious response to these outbreaks and risks

I wish there would be more support for access to safer and more sustainable food - especially delicious and nutritious plants (like soybeans)

Those floods are tragic -

I get that there are priorities to some extent - but, that is used sometimes for inaction on other key issues

Eg, in response to requests to address climate change, some may say that in their estimation addressing the threat of nuclear war is the priority...
