A M6.1 earthquake struck western Türkiye today, causing one death.

This area is no stranger to earthquakes. In 1969, a M6.1 quake was followed by a M6.8, then a year later a M7.2, all on different faults. Were these triggered events? And how should we think about the risk now?

What do we know about the M8.8 earthquake that struck offshore Russia yesterday? We explore patterns in the foreshocks and aftershocks, compare the USGS seismic catalog with a local seismic database, and compare the event to the great 1952 earthquake.

A swarm of earthquakes has been rattling the Greek islands. Today marked the largest event in the swarm so far (M5.1). Schools are closed and emergency crews have deployed.

Could the swarm trigger a really big earthquake, like the M7.8 in 1956?
