Why do they believe that God cares about protecting a genocidal state more than the victims of said genocide? How is it that those who claim to follow the "Prince of Peace" and those who support the annihilation of an entire population are one and the same?

Ted Cruz is a self-avowed Christian, so why is it that he justifies his unconditional support for Israel by quoting the Old Testament but not the New Testament?

In his interview with Tucker Carlson, the U.S. Senator Ted Cruz conflated several different meanings of the word “Israel.” This conflation is actually quite common and leads to various problems in communication on this topic, including both misunderstandings and deliberate deceptions. Because “Israel” is a polyvalent word that has acquired various connotations in its long history, a less-than-honest speaker or writer can switch the implied definition in the middle of a sentence without the audience noticing they have been tricked.

I really want to understand Ted Cruz’s argument when he said, during his interview with Tucker Carlson, that the Bible requires Christians to support the modern state of Israel. To be sure, I am not convinced that Cruz is using good logic, which means that I am already biased against his claim. At the same time, I do want to take the argument seriously, for the following reason: If I don’t take it seriously then I won’t be able to understand it—and I have no right to criticize an argument that I haven’t fully grasped.

On June 18, 2025, Tucker Carlson—conservative political commentator and former Fox News host—interviewed Ted Cruz—Republican Senator from Texas—for his podcast, “The Tucker Carlson Show.” Several clips from this interview quickly went viral, including the one where the podcast host interrogates the Senator about the latter’s definition of the word “Israel.” The clip shows Ted Cruz trying to justify his ambition to become, as well as his claim to be, “the leading defender of Israel” in the U.S.
