I don't discuss metrics much, but I just wanted to thank you all for 100,000 all-time listens/downloads! To think that my voice has been listened to across the world 100,000 times is absolutely insane, and I can't wait to keep bringing Australian history to you all.

Thank you so much again.

What is rather interesting though is the age-based breakdown. As you can see, while the majority of the podcast's listeners remain in the 23-59 age range, that number seems to have trended older in the last year, with 45-59 not only swapping places with 28-34, but increasing by 4%.

For Spotify, if we look at the data for listeners by gender, we see that despite a small increase of the side of males, the numbers still breakdown to ~3/4 male to ~1/4 female listeners. Now, I'm not 'shocked' by this, history podcasts on the whole tend to attract a male audience it seems.

As you can see, Spotify retained the number one spot both years, and despite a 6% drop, continues to make up a majority of the podcast's listens. This year did see a major rise in Apple Podcasts listens, by around 8%, and I suspect during the next year I'll see the two platforms get close to parity.

Finally, looking towards Canada, its about as typical as one would think, only with Quebec abit lower compared to its standings population-wise, and Manitoba replaced by Saskatchewan. Perhaps most interesting is how wildly the % of listens from each province changed over the two years.

Meanwhile, if we look at the USA, it seems to follow a similar trend of rank = population, although more spread out percentage-wise likely due to the USA's increased population and increased number of states. Their is one major quirk though, that being, the complete lack of Florida in the top 5.

Starting with Australia, you can see that it pretty much follows the expected trend when compared to Australia's population, NSW first, Victoria second, and so on. What's more noticeable to me is the decrease in both my home state of SA, and especially NSW which went down by 3%.

Looking a bit more broadly now, below you'll find the breakdown by continent, excluding Australia. Going along with this idea of consolidation, most of the continents did see a regression in the % of listeners from them, although all continents had more countries of origin this year than last.

So, to start, let's look at some country data. There are some obvious data points at first glance, most noticeably, the fact that the majority of my listeners come from Australia (whodathunk aha). Furthermore, ~88% of my listeners come from the Anglosphere, with the USA and UK making up the top 3.

How true is this story? It might be small, but the rabbit-hole it sent me down is mighty interesting...'

If you want to find out about this and a whole lot more about Australia in 1848-1850, check out next episode, ep 56: Colonial Australia before the Gold Rush.

Hey all! I've been down south on the Fleurieu Peninsula this week, and I've taken a few photos of the regions history and geography (more likely to come) that I thought I'd share. Pictures are of Second Valley here, with more coming. Hope you all enjoy!
