I’ve been seeing a lot of tepid takes like this on the Skyline too and I understand the point you THINK you’re making but like…no.

Ilan Stone is none other than fine ass Aaron Stone Pierre. AKA Malcom X in Genius. AKA Terry in Rebel Ridge. Francis in Brother, voice of Mufasa, the new Green Lantern and the man I cheat on Serge Ibaka with in my mind. 😍

He’s a gifted actor but turns out he can also RAP rap, like frfr. Who knew?!

Album of the Day:

Ilan Stone - Ante Meridiem

This EP came out back in 2019, but I only discovered it this year and put it in heavy rotation. Ilan Stone is a British rapper and gives BIG blog era, DatPiff mixtape, backpack rappity rap with a spot of tea & crumpets. And fun fact about the artist:

Album of the Day:

Rae Khalil - CRYBABY

If I had a physical copy of this, it would be warped from overuse! Rae’s voice is an enchanting mix of sweetness & grit. Vulnerable lyrics on this, but bright, well-paced musicianship balances the heaviness.

Favs: “Is It Worth It”; “Come
Home”; “Bittersweet”

Album of the Day:

Moses Sumney - Sophcore

I reach for Moses’ previous albums when I want to cry in fetal position. He lightens up here, though. Sophcore is brisk and sexy; brims with cheek. It strays from his older music, but his voice is stirring, as always.

Fav songs: “Whippedlash”, “Vintage”

Album of the Day:

berlioz - open this wall

This album feels like a hug! It’s mellow, jazzy and mostly instrumental; perfect for calming down and chilling out. What few words DO appear on the album are positive affirmations of sorts; very good vibes.

Fav songs: “open this wall”; “ode to rahsaan”

Album of the Day:

Foushée - Pointy Heights

While making this, Foushée visited her family home in Jamaica (where her mom used to drum in a reggae band in the 80s) and that influence shines here. It captures warm, vintage Jamaican ska and brings the sound forward.

Fav songs: “birds, bees”; “war”
