All that to say - things are absolutely horrific right now and should definitely be stopped. I definitely don't want to dismiss the harm of *gestures wildly* everything.

I don't necessarily mean that as a "the US is only purely horrific and negative" statement, but I worry that focus on how bad things have been "recently" or due to specific political actions distracts us from how these things are consequences and part of an established pattern of cruelty.

I mean, what's to say we haven't been *there* for a long time? Like, other than other countries waging physical war on US land, what atrocities are going on in other countries that haven't also been happening here for a long time? (Plus our own special atrocities!)
