Wir erarbeiten wissenschaftlich fundierte und politisch umsetzbare Wege für die Transformation zu einer nachhaltigen Ernährung, Land- und Forstwirtschaft.
A sustainable food system and #bioeconomy can thrive together – when land is used efficiently and the demand for food, feed and biomass is more sustainable than it is today. 🌾

⏭️ What next? The strategy needs to evolve into a coherent and effective policy approach with three main goals:

• To enhance the competitiveness of bio-based in relation to fossil-based products
• To drive the highest-value uses of #biomass while avoiding unsustainable pressure on land 7/x

🔴 What is missing: food innovation. Specifically, creating the conditions to support diets lower in animal products can substantially reduce pressure on land, enabling the bioeconomy to thrive within ecological limits while maintaining #foodsecurity. 🍽️ 4/x

🟢The strategy sends a strong signal towards a wide deployment of bio-based materials as alternatives to fossil-based construction products, plastics, and chemicals. This is an opportunity to unlock economic opportunities in rural areas, while strengthening Europe's path to #climateneutrality. 2/x

👨‍🌾 Overall, the #MFF and #CAP budget are essential to turn contributions to societal sustainability objectives, such as climate mitigation and biodiversity, into business opportunities for farmers.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ The performance framework should be strengthened by using result indicators tied to real-world impacts, such as carbon sequestered or emissions avoided – to assess how well NRP plans meet societal goals.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ It is crucial to align agri & forestry interventions in the NRP with the #bioeconomy and #agriculture tools under the 🇪🇺 Competitiveness Fund and research funding under Horizon Europe. This way new bioeconomy value chains can offer farmers new income while supporting climate & biodiversity goals.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ Co-financing rates can also become a lever - by requiring Member State co-financing for area-based and coupled income support, while offering higher EU co-financing for ambitious environmental and climate measures.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ A sufficiently large minimum budget is needed for agri-environmental and #climate measures to reward farmers for the provision of valuable public services.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ To incentivise Member States to apply such instruments, a gradual reduction of a maximum share for area-based and coupled income support over the budget period should be introduced.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
✅ Not obliging Member States to spend funds on area-based income support, would empower them to use these for more efficient and targeted instruments.

🛠️ The good news is: With small adjustments, the policy can be turned into a tool that drives #competitiveness, long-term #resilience and #sustainability, strengthening the sector and society as a whole:
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
➡️ For the CAP, one thing is clear: the proposal does not exploit the opportunity to turn sustainability into a business case for #farmers. Its shrunk budget can still be very much tied to area-based income support with little societal value.
July 18, 2025 at 12:05 PM
🛣️ This restructuring could pave the way for greater coherence and impact, provided the right implementation conditions are in place.

🤝 A standout feature is a new National and Regional Partnership (NRP) Plan. It brings together policy areas ranging from agriculture and environmental protection to rural development under one strategic umbrella.
