I agree with you. My comment was mostly to show how common this practice is all over the world. Aunties and Uncles are special figures in everyone's lives. Even when they are not related by blood.

In Italy the word aunty/uncle is used to refer to older people but not too old with you are friend with. Or when a certain group of fans speaks of their favourite singer (one in particular). Cousin is more used in the South sometimes in conjunction with the word brother so it sounds like brocousin.
