This sounds familiar. I can't think of it. However, there are some great essays in the book "The Post Colonial Reader" that talk about the concept of modern colonialism being of thoughts and minds rather than of soil.

I was explicitly told to stop teaching cursive in my high school English classes by a Special Ed teacher colleague. She claimed that that was asking too much of SpEd students.

Yup, that's how it rolls. However, I have a hard enough time getting people onboard with the modern spelling of it without the digraph.
