Astrophysicist at the University of Cambridge. Research interests include massive star evolution, core-collapse supernovae and other related phenomena. 🌌
Happy to share a new paper led by @cambridgeastro.bsky.social PhD student David Bour, where we looked into how a star can achieve significant mass gain by accreting gas from a close companion without spinning up too much 💫 The secret ingredient? Magnetic fields 🧲

Great article 🤩 I met Bill Paxton when I attended the 2018 MESA Summer School in Santa Barbara, which was an amazing experience, and MESA has been an important part of my scientific work for over a decade. Paxton passed away just three weeks ago.

Up on arXiv for a few months, now officially published! With @astroeva.bsky.social, we investigate the diverse lives and endpoints of massive stars, uncovering in some a brief pre-supernova stage with strong winds, perhaps explaining some interesting supernovae: academic.oup.com/mnras/articl...
The landscape of binary core-collapse supernova progenitors and the late emergence of Wolf–Rayet winds
ABSTRACT. The majority of core-collapse supernova (CCSN) progenitors are massive stars in multiple systems, and their evolution and final fate are affected
