Life hack: if you find yourself too sedentary from sitting down too much throughout the day, do glute exercises, that way you'll be too sore to sit down.

Accidentally dropped my return Shinkansen ticket in the station without knowing. Luckily a dude saw and picked it up and returned it to me. Dodged a bullet there, or rather... almost dodged my bullet train.

I was afraid of overloading on noodles and rice here and having issues with my digestive system, but like it's almost the opposite? TMI but at home I was dropping logs, here I'm like leaving tiny rabbit pellets. Dunno if it's the 20k+ daily steps or what.

While every inch of my body might be deteriorating from the slow march of time, I will always celebrate those moments like when a bouncer does a double take after checking my ID and says he thought I was 10 years younger than what my ID says.

I always thought that boy group choreo was my stronger point, so I was a bit confused when I was assigned to the girl group song of my dance crew's performance. And I wasn't even like delegated to the back behind everyone cuz I'm bad or something; they literally have me center for two big sections?

With the LA fires, a common theme I saw was, out of all the objects lost to the fires, people were sad the most about sentimental objects like family pictures. I'm reflecting on this because it's a reminder that the human connections and memories are what matter the most.

Kinda late to the party, but Dandadan is actually so good. I haven't been keeping up with anime at all the last few years because maybe I thought I was past that phase, but after actually taking the time to sit down with a series again, I'm reminded how amazing anime can be.

Duolingo is fine if you want to get basics and some survival phrases out of the way, but while they teach you How they skip the Why. They skip the proper grammar teaching, and past a certain point, that lack of foundation hampers you as you try getting to the next level.

I'm seeing now that the reason I prefer reading Kanji is partly due to the fact that I'm still kinda zako at reading Hiragana. Kanji lets my brain make assumptions on what the surrounding Hiragana is from context, instead of me having to actually pay attention to the Hiragana.

Pipe organ is crazy. You need to coordinate 10 fingers and 2 feet over 4 different sets of keyboards/pedals, and then lyrics to sing too if you don't have a choir. I was gonna say it's like a one man band, but it's more like one man orchestra.

I wish I could subtract my weight from the weight of an average adult my age and use that difference as extra allowance for the weight of luggage I can bring on a plane.

1yo niece is learning ASL and it's fascinating to see her signing words more than she can speak. Albeit she doesn't always use them accurately, like every drink is "milk" and any mammal that isn't adult sized is "dog" including babies.

I was intimidated by this at first, but I got a sudden moment of inspiration after realizing how epic it would be to play Bach's little fugue in G Minor on this so now I'm motivated to learn.

Heard from some lesson audio 'you'll find this on... maybe not anymore... tape recorders or VCRs... but let me just fast forward to the current generation: DVD players'

yeah, still might need to fast forward a few more years

I find it kinda cool how some ESL learners adopt some non-standard accents depending on where they studied, like a Japanese person speaking English with a Filipino accent. Now I'm wondering if I can find a Japanese tutor who talks in a cool way so I can sound unique.

Another sign of the years going by is noticing how more pictures of people when they young were taken on smart phones. For my baby pictures, my parents still had to bring their film to pharmacies to have them developed and printed.

Had a flash card review streak going for Anki, but my app bugged out for a day and I couldn't see any of my decks until they fixed it, and my streak reset 🙃

I was out for dinner with the family and I made a chill guy reference to my brother. I knew that my nephew was the only one who would get it and he turned to look at me, but I kept a straight face and kept looking at my brother like a chill guy.

I've always known"kakkoii" to be translated as "cool", but my mind was blown when I discovered it literally means 'appearance (kakkou) is good (ii)'. I wonder how many ESL learners use "cool" without knowing the literal meaning of being 'mildly cold'.

I'm still amazed by the power of music. Hearing a song you loved but haven't listened to in over a decade can instantly fill you with joy.

I've started utilizing password locking and hiding apps from the app drawer. I locked all my social media apps because I find myself mindlessly browsing them, and the new extra steps it takes to open them helps to remind me that I should be doing something productive instead.

Currently my brain has 2 directories: English and *that other language that isn't English. Mandarin is stored there now, and I feel like any Japanese I'm learning is just thrown into that unorganized folder as well. Like, how do you get more brain storage space, so I can create a separate JP folder.

Time keeps slipping away so I think I'm just going to start my new year's resolutions now.

Was excited that Shake Shack opened a new spot right next to me, but it was super salty and not nearly as good as I remember it. Was it because it was drive thru? New staff not knowing the recipe?
