Underway for HOT361!
November 21, 2025 at 2:12 AM
It's been a whirlwind of the last few months simultaneously sailing on HOT cruises and preparing to ship things for a S. Atl cruise.

Honestly.... I'd rather rewrite my thesis than wash another bottle right now 🤣🙃. But today, I loaded for another HOT cruise AND moved my last items into acid. 💃🏻🥳

This week, I cleaned 100L of carboys, 36 L of bottles, and 360 McLane pump filters 🙀. Trying to catch up on desk work today, and...

Getting ready for HOT-359, featuring double the niskins! Working on testing a new rosette before shipping it off 🎉

Well that's a new one for me... 🤣 (No Niskins were irreparably harmed)

That's a wrap on HOT358! Featuring the... fun... wire angle on my last trace metal cast post hurricane Kiko passing through

Successfully recovered our 5 sediment trap crosses (60 PITs!) and spent the rest of the day homogenizing, subsampling, and filtering for macronutrients, trace metals, organics, DNA, et al. 🌊

Another day at ALOHA, feat. a glider search party and recovery 🌊

Lots of tricho out here at station ALOHA 🦠🌊
September 8, 2025 at 5:13 AM
Busy day of deployments on the R/V Kilo Moana at station ALOHA. Seaglider, wire walker, and 5 sediment trap crosses spanning 75-300 m (including two optical sed traps ‼️). We're working to understand export and recycling across the euphotic zone 🌊🧪

After much delay, HOT358 is officially underway 🌊👩🏻‍🔬
September 6, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Finally loading for HOT358 tomorrow (after it's been continuously delayed since April), and I'm beginning to think this cruise is cursed 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

In times of such uncertainty, it was so lovely to spend the last two weeks connecting with and feeling inspired by folks in my field at the GRC in chemical oceanography & iron air-sea interface workshop 🎉🌊

*insert that meme about how getting a PhD is like getting slapped in the face by your advisor for 5+ years*

But seriously, super happy and grateful for my PhD experience. None of which would've been possible without NSF funding.

Quick sampling trip today out at Kaneohe Bay. Gearing up to start a side project that's been on my mind since starting my PhD!

That's a wrap on HOT-357 aboard the R/V Sikuliaq 💪🏻🌊

Early morning deployments of 5 sediment traps arrays today at station ALOHA. We hope to quantify the export from multiple depths spanning from 75 - 300 m 🎉👀

Wow it's been a whirlwind of a year so far!

- 2 months ago: defended my PhD
- 1 month ago: moved to Hawai'i
- tomorrow: leave on the first cruise of many for my Post-Doc!

Excited to take a deep dive into Fe cycling at station ALOHA with some high res sampling of the lower euphotic zone!

T-1 week until I officially start my Post-Doc and my cats are enjoying island life 🎉🌺

This journey started a decade ago during my first undergrad oceanography class, but I am so thrilled to say that I have successfully finished my PhD in #chemicaloceanography at University of Southern California advised by Dr. Jim Moffett. 🌊 🧪

I defend my PhD in approximately 12 hours, and this is what LA looks like (blue dot: my location). I am overwhelmed with concurrent grief regarding the state of our climate and gratitude for my safety and all of the generosity people in my community have put forth. 💗

'tis the season for some oceanography gifts. Two years ago, I took some CTD-shrunken fish and made them into ornaments. This year, I infused some Antarctic sediment into clay and made some ornament shaped magnets 👀🎉
