screenshot of a google docs that reads: Keep in mind that my only other reference to compare this album to is Noontide Side Attic Drifter. This album flows better than your last. Every track comes together and nothing ever feels redundant or filler-y. Not that it felt that way in NSAD either, however it did feel a little overstuffed. It was a good choice to trim down the tracklisting. For my favourites, I have: -Unhealthy for sensitive groups. This one has an awesome "mysterious" vibe that fits well with that theme of pictures taken around the city. Feels like exploring an abandoned facility. The chiptune is an excellent addition as well, you wouldn't think it'd fit, but it does! And my GOD, the breakdown at 3:31 with the rumbling bass and these eerie vocals is an actual stroke of genius. It sounds like a happy, carefree melody, but it's flipped on its head an given a completely new meaning. Seriously, one of your best moments ever. -The natural path. This one is ADDICTIVE. It's a pretty simple happy song, but it doesn't feel shallow at all. The inclusion of that one vocal sample (I don't know how it's called) really works well. The vibraphone solo is also one of the best moments on the album. -Dangerous curve. -Hydrologic Outlook. A screenshot of a google docs that reads: -Dangerous curve. -Hydrologic Outlook. I do not have a least favourite track. As for why this album isn't a masterpiece.. It's hard to pin down. It sounds a little.. plain? When Assisted living comes in, I'm like.. yeah, this is an ambient techno track. It's got pretty synth washes and sometimes there's acid synths. It's a good track but there's nothing that groundbreaking about it. You can about apply this to the whole album experience. I like this album more when it tries new exciting things, like the chiptune and vocals on Unhealthy. The one exception would be Natural path, which is a genuinely addictive song despite not really trying anything new. If all the tracks were on the height as my favourites, I think it'd still only make for a pretty solid 8/10. Finally, even if this album isn't a masterpiece, it's a step in the right direction, and some tracks I REALLY want to come back to. It didn't make me lose interest at all in your music at large, and I'm more hyped than ever to hear new music from you! Also, special mention to the bandcamp bonus track, the first 6 minutes are legitimately some of your best ever, and l'd love to see you make more stuff in this less beat-y, more loose direction.
