That's an interesting thought - there was a show of youtube shorts called Obsolete where aliens showed up and would trade a standardized mech chassis for a 1-ton block of limestone.

I think you are missing the point i'm making, which is that they simply were not playing the game.
It's like a boxing match where the fighters are actually out to kill each other, but the audience doesn't know. They will not respect the clock, they will punch out the ref and keep going.

I didn't, no. The MPs have been unable to stop the Red Gundam previously, and the gelgoog is next-gen over the police Zakus. If the two of them kept fighting, the MPs would not be able to stop them.

The fact that Shuji didn't even try definitely says something, and i hope studio Khara has something interesting to say with it. But insisting that fair play would or could have mattered is also missing the point, i feel.

Three, Shuuji and Shiiko HAD a newtype moment. That's always been the tragedy of it, sometimes understanding each other just means you know that your goals can never co-exist and this ends with a body on the floor. She came to be free of the Red Gundam one way or another, and he... did that.

Yes, she's very round and nice. She brought her clan-bat opponents a gift cake. She had a family. None of this changes the fact that she was a creature hollowed out by revenge. It's just being presented in a different package from the usual gruff stubble man archetype.

Two, she was out there like Ahab. She burned her entire postwar life to relive the war again the second she heard the devil machine was back, not caring who was actually piloting it. She was lost in '79 for the entire fight. If her suit was disabled today, she would be back tomorrow in a new one.

Well, lest i eat a block, let me start out with "I'm not DEFENDING Shuji". But I keep seeing these comments today, and i can't agree with the argument. We're a third of the show in, and the whole event happened in slow-motion from outside, without Shuji's reaction.
