This baby Chinquapin oak sapling grew by our garden gate, likely from an acorn buried by a squirrel. Since an oak tree blocking a gate isn’t great we moved it 6 weeks ago. So far it’s done very well. We won’t live to see it get more than 10-15 feet tall but hope it survives 🤞

My sustainable garden is full of #NativePlants - here is witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) Love seeing the spidery blooms in November!

After an hour of scrolling the news, I needed to get a bit of joy back. A quick look at my #Garden photos reminded me of where I find peace and comfort

The last weekend of our open native plant garden event starts tonight in #HamOnt. Amazing how well biodiverse gardens stand up to heat & drought! #GardenJourneys25

The amazing eco-friendly gardens of #GardenJourneys have so inspired me! Seeing the resilience of native plants, and the utility of rain water management during the heat and lack of rain in #HamOnt this year is impressive, as well as beautiful. Gardens are open for the rest of today and Aug 15-17.

When the world seems to have gone nuts, a #NativePlant garden is balm for the soul

Like all gardeners about to open their garden to visitors, I’m thinking “ I wish the asters and goldenrod were blooming” and “you should have seen it last month”. Plus ça change…

Happy to see that black swallowtail butterfly got busy amidst my parsley and dill plants! Do you see both caterpillars?
August 3, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Finally I’m seeing butterflies in my #PollinatorGarden! So many black swallowtails! Only a couple of monarchs - so far.

The number of pollinators covering shrubby St John’s wort (Hypericum prolificum) never fails to amaze me. All summer long! #NativeBees #Hoverflies #NativePlants

Looking forward to salmon for dinner tonight, seasoned with dill from my herb garden 😋

There is something so gentle about #NativePlant gardens, don’t you agree?
June 17, 2025 at 8:44 PM
Wow. Speed limit enforcement results in tickets. We can’t have that! Traffic accidents would be reduced and scofflaws are angry!

@tomflood.bsky.social thanks for the reminder that today is #WorldBicycleDay
In honour of it we’ve just returned from a lovely cycle through trails and streets in #HamOnt. Wearing highvis shirts because needs must…

After being away the first two weeks of May, it’s taken this long to knock the garden into some sort of shape. Much more to do 😃 #NativePlants #Gardening #HamOnt

This constant rain is getting me down because there is a lot to do in the garden. And then I remember that there has been worse gardening weather this year 😜

I’m loving the Zizia aurea (golden Alexander) that I planted last year. It’s a host plant for the black swallowtail butterfly

My ethically sourced Trillium grandiflorum has started to spread after a few years. Thank you, little ants, for spreading their seeds!

Last spring I shook seed pods from wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) all along this little border beside my house. Success! They are blooming around the other native plants in this shady spot.

Gardening pals, I need a diagnosis here. Is this plant the problematic non-native greater celandine (Chelidonium majus) OR is it the desirable native wood poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum)? Seed pods have bristles and leaves in pairs. Also looks deliberately placed. 🤞
