As one might imagine, the production and sale of vessels is tightly regulated by those in power. This drives up their price enormously.

Some criminals make their living supplying them, not only to collectors but also people who just want to touch them at leisure and taste the pretty color-sounds.

Each element has its own vessel, but touching one is only the first step. A vessel must be either made into the right shape or connected to something of the right shape: a tool or weapon called a conduit.

Ordinary tools like hammers and saws focus energy by their shape. Conduits are no different.

All magic is a physical expression of the natural elemental force called aether.

Access to it is by no means equal.

All monsters are born attuned to one element of aether or another – Water, Air, Fire, or Earth. Everyone else must draw it out with rare, expensive materials called vessels.

“How does the magic work?” should never be the *most* important thing about a story, but it’s always a fun flavor.

And “flavor” is approaching the right word. Magic in AETHER TORRENT, to its users, evokes a synesthetic multi-sensory feeling, a fractal sense of tasting the smell of a color’s volume.
