Great interview, Pete. You're one of the best communicators working to do good in the US today. Help us save ourselves, please.

We may never know what is in this particular 85 year old writer's heart, but I don't think it's worth much mental energy from any of us.

Critiquing the books is totally fair game tho. We can also go pile on Neil Gaiman—the revelation that he's a bastard cut me all the way

I don't disagree but if shitty writing got people thinking 40 years ago or whatever I appreciate it exists.

Seems like it.

Not a fan either but I respect. She was born in 1939 and was publishing stuff challenging social issues long before I was born. In a far less welcoming social context.

This conversation feels like energy misspent—we have much more relevant things to worry about.

While I still haven't found the article posted above in full, she posts enough stuff like this I think I'm kinda over the idea of pillorying this particular 85 year old.

You know it's not real because he would never take time to speak to them.
February 13, 2025 at 11:45 PM
Unfortunately this looks like a sober reading of a written speech. It's just actually dumb, which is sorta worse.

it's unfortunate that that toronto star article is paywalled and lacks context + attributions in the headline/caption.
February 13, 2025 at 11:40 PM
I don't know what that headline from means and I thought I saw her saying trans supportive things before.

Did a cursory search—this doesn't sound terfy—is there something clearer I should read?

I don't love her writing but appreciated that she made some think that may not have otherwise.

I clicked in from the cat picture to see what you were on about and feel nothing but regret.
