#r4today it's not the spending but the evidence base.

#r4today how about getting rid of the lord's electing the second chamber and having proper rules in place avoiding the muddy line between honours and parliament.

#r4today drum roll and later it's more mobile phones and schools again.

How about a short piece on if there are any schools that don't have really clear policies on there use.

My two kids at two different senior schools both have policies on not using inside the school and enforce.

#r4today wasn't the sitting MP actually suspended by the Labour Party

#r4today pause the news it's two hours on social media. How will we tell the difference.
January 30, 2026 at 7:04 AM
#r4today I wonder how the minutes of content rack up in recent weeks and months. Somehow phones in schools, homes and seemingly anywhere likely to be top. Can't help but think it is a window on what we are like as a species the tech is the tech but it's people who put it to work for good or ill.

#r4today the issue is of course that it's a private members bill not government legislation. That's problematic with such serious legislation and it's been a not unpredictable outcome.
January 29, 2026 at 8:41 AM
#r4today that was odd Liz Kendall giving Emma Barnett the run around not sure any of it dealt with the issues. Then again the starting point should be Carney's observations on how middle sized powers get by in an unequal world rather than presenting relationships as if they are anywhere near equal.

#r4today it's not a judgement on the risks or otherwise of use of screens but a business owner selling alternatives of course is going to big up the risks in his 5 minutes talking up his company.
January 22, 2026 at 7:26 AM
#r4today I'm not going to say someone isn't telling the truth but as a parent of a 20 year old and a 15 year old I definitely know that when it came to phones and the Covid period that the access to the wider web and it's content was a real consideration.

#wato Ah restaurant inspectors getting it in the neck. Doesn't matter if it's chain or top end the responsibility is the same.
January 14, 2026 at 1:50 PM
#R4today that was odd with Davey. Libdems get very little chance to get on the airwaves but is then cut off at every turn.

#r4today the question isn't one of bemoaning football but asking what one if the largest minority sports can do to extend beyond its core group of the privately schooled and players from Indian, Pakistan Bangladesh and Sri Lankan heritage who and the bedrock of most local league teams.

#r4today ah I see paid for service that the manufacturers tell us work I see.
December 18, 2025 at 6:57 AM
#r4today so the discussion on weight loss drugs lost in a discussion about why as a society we collectively pool money for the general good and more time given to Jane Austen. The discussion on big food and big pharma left barely half covered.

#r4today I swear they don't listen to their own news item which discussed opening up Erasmus to apprenticeships and other levels of study.
December 17, 2025 at 7:41 AM
#R4today so how are we able to offer criticism of the actions of a state without that turning into a criticism of a religion or people? Condemning attacks such as Bondi or October 7 is right by how do we observe the actions of a state critically without the accusation of tipping into something else.
December 15, 2025 at 9:06 AM
It's clear that targeting people celebrating a religious festival is a disgraceful atrocity.

It's not justifiable to pull together the actions of a state with people who share a religion.

Something rotten at the heart of Bristol Rovers 12 months of car crash viewing.

Not that it matters as such but England are so maddening. First innings 150 light and crumbling under the lights now.
December 6, 2025 at 11:12 AM
#r4today the systems cost what we would have expected. None of our infrastructure magically doesn't degrade or need improving. Take your pick schools, hospitals, energy and railways. Even the approach to broadband

#r4today great remind us of all the pointless items this year.
December 4, 2025 at 7:53 AM
#r4today the chap with his sport book may well be telling us how things are but I kind of thought that the olympic ideals included fair play. So pretty much advocating a process where there are bribes and essentially unfair processes while honest is probably worth a level of challenge.
