kinda a sidenote but Stefan Tilg’s wonderful article is hilarious at times. these are some of my favourite sections, the first for showing that back in the day you could just lie and plagiarise and no-one would make 3 hour long YouTube videos about it. the second because I now hate diminutives

This version of the story is difficult to believe, not least because there is a pattern in Gottsched's Versuch of covering up his sources to maximize his originality. The choice of Lubinus seems to have been suggested by the fact that Christ was referring only to Estienne and André, which left the third widely read Latin translation, Lubinus', available for stealthy exploitation. this is an organisation campaigning *against* the bodily autonomy and human rights of the insane. I think the pattern of “bored housewife turned crypto-fascist political campaigner” is really worrying! maybe being confined to the home all day is bad for you or something?

in spite of Panormita’s poetic and comedic chops being very much overstated in the reaction to the publishing of “Hermaphroditus,” very little is funnier to me than the first page of the I Tatti volume of that book, so it was worth it
