Do you have any writings on the emotional aspect of this? I can see some of it with developers uncomfortable working in teams or wanting to take sole credit for work, but have mostly considered it the result of top down attempts to ... optimize labor.

Don't run into a lot of people with 16 years experience that still write shipped code, but most people I do meet have that mindset. I'm the weirdo.

I can only hope they're messing around around in reporting databases, not realizing operational data is elsewhere. That's a serious enough security breach though.

I just assume not testing requires you to open the debugger. I doubt they actually enjoy it. It's just the only way they know how to work.
