Not a dog or cat, but how about a smiling lamb! A happy member of our critically endangered Gulf Coast sheep flock.

It was cold enough last night that we were able to start our inaugural fire in our new woodstove!

No Kings that surpassed expected numbers in our small Texas town then on to the local county fair. We will win.

Our new ram was not sure about integrating with our ewes when he was brought home 1 month ago. (They’ve been know to batter interlopers) Today? He’s in the middle of the herd trying to show that even though he is only 6 months old he’s the man about town.

We just added this handsome young man to our flock! He’s a very rare strand of the gulf coast breed so hoping he will be an excellent addition to the flock.

I just ripped out an entire yoke of a Marie Wallin pattern because there was an error. Better to reknit it than live with it!

Big news at the Rockin’ h ranch. We bought a new flock ram, Dali (yes as in Salvador). He’s a Gulf Coast native in the Ladnor line. Our breed is critically endangered and every lamb helps save this breed. He’s only 6 months old, so no lambs right away, but he is already eyeballing the ewes!

I’m unpacking from our remodel… and I really miss Marooned, the record store I used to work at. Rip.

My dad didn’t believe in hotels, so my childhood was filled with camping vacations. Watkins Glen was a standby as it was a half way point between Maryland and our camp in New Hampshire. I was able to hike the gorge with my family this past weekend and everything clicked into place. Full circle.

My grandparents were house parents for the Hershey orphanage (yes- the chocolate co). The archivist found this great story about my Grandfather speaking Pa Dutch when he didn’t want the boys to know what he was chatting about. My grandfather was an orphan so I imagine he saw this job as giving back.

Our big lugs say hi as well!

I know … but look at the nice flowers! The herbs and the petunias seeded front last year and the gladiolus remind me of my Grandma who always grew them by the vegetable garden.

I am so tired of our kitchen renovation. I’m cooking on an induction hot plate on top of my wash machine… cabinets arrived today so hopefully I will have a kitchen back in a month or so.

The huge storms have passed, and I am just about finished with my promotion materials (they seem related!), so I am sitting on the back porch watching the hummingbirds fight over the feeder and the swallows swoop to catch insects.

I just learned that Chris Penn- who I worked with at our local record store, Marooned-has died. This fuzzy picture is from a 90s instore we did with @lylelovett.bsky.social and Robert Earle Keene. I cannot believe he is gone. He owned good records & should still be bopping his head to live music.

Rip my kitchen island- my entire kitchen- my entire house. I’ve got the now I can grill for two months of the Reno project.

Sitting in the back porch looking at the pasture. Sheep are in the barn and the livestock guard dogs are scanning for coyotes.

Here are two cats sleeping. Here’s to the same for us… a good night’s rest.

We’ve had this mug for a good while, but ummm…..

I think it probably depends on where you are and how hungry the coyotes are. Our fences are 5 feet with barbed wire at top and bottom and 4 inch high tensile wire. Without the dogs it might be a problem. We also have bobcats, jaguarundi, and cougars.

I’m at work and trying to finish my #mla25 paper. I made this chocolate monstrosity to get me through….

Our ancient girl, Duster, is not impressed with our cold weather.

Another cold day in Texas, so I get to wear another sweater that I made!
January 7, 2025 at 5:40 PM
My parents and waffle night! This was probably 1968?
January 7, 2025 at 12:51 AM
I made this sweater about 15 years ago. It’s a customized Flak Aran. It remains my go to casual sweater.
