Professional Football Coach. Rambling on about football and music that has a beat, a bass-line and a MC. A License / Advance Youth Award. Back doing what I love after a 2 season hiatus.
Also I have experienced how not to be when your a new member of staff. So many lessons learned there too! Humility, listening, subtle and small changes, empathy, respect of whats
gone before, evolution not revolution.

I now go back into a training ground / changing room having experienced a dreaded “release” with loads of time to reflect on what I could have done better, this alone sets me on a different path when dealing with the new group of players in about to work with.

Im greatful to have added this corporate experience to my skill set, it confirmed to me just how important relationships and people skills are in all parts of life. I’m better for it and I’m interested to see how it’s changed me as a coach.

Just incredible how it made me feel rewatching them. I hope one day we get to experience something similar or better again. An 89th min winner on 21st May 2025 will do I guess.

I spent my lunch break rewatching the thread on Twitter of the filmed goal reactions of Moura’s third goal and I won’t lie I welled up with joy countless times. There is nothing in the world that comes close to being able to share emotions that strong with people you don’t know all over the world.

I’ve been thinking about this statement all day and I have to respectfully say that this isn’t correct. I would say it was up until the Fulham defeat when I myself turned, but on the whole, in this part of London where I work and the suburbs where I live, you will not find many Ange in fans anymore.

Easily fixable

to basically use games between those European ties as a pre-season is gaslighting. That said, this team are woefully coached.

This was something I was taught and felt separated good players/teams/coaches from excellent ones.

so in those first few months, whilst I learnt and found my feet as assistant, I carried out that basic duty of reminding/correct players away from the ball, to not watch the game, to expect the worse to happen and always think about the what ifs.

and I mean always, be in my ear and others including a few first team managers, about looking away from the ball and being set in case of the transition. When I first started coaching at the U18 level, I wasn’t ready, it was a big jump tactically,

which have been ignored or haven’t been identified or corrected (not sure which is worse) which for a manager who has preached “this is who we are” ie relentless attacking, I find the most staggering part of this season’s failures. My mentor would, no matter what level of game, would always

Highlighted many aspects of the lack of coaching detail which has proven the theory that Ange hasn’t been able to scale up his defensive model to the PL. Player distances, players level of engagement/concentration on the task, solely falls on the manager. They are quite easily fixable problems

14 goals already and barely takes more than a touch. Such a skill!

I have never seen a player who seems to base his whole game on that one piece of basic advice more than Brennan Johnson and fair play to him.

They’d all agree and within the next game I guarantee the ball would flash across and they wouldn’t be there…

All you have to do is get inside that far post, don’t hang back, don’t hesitate, the time that you do will be the time the ball arrives, don’t be worrying about recovery runs if it doesn’t come off…
