My general approach in this admin is to see who wrote/said it. If a career CDC staff has their name on it, that means it has gone through CDC scientific clearance. If it only has appointees or not attributed to a specific person or CDC unit, don’t trust it.

And that’s the ONLY acknowledgement or instructions regarding an appropriations lapse. Agency leaders have also been instructed to not share any instructions in writing until the Secretary’s office does, whenever that may be.

Yes! They’re living to be old enough to develop chronic conditions instead of dying from vaccine-preventable illnesses, birth defects, infections, cancer, or any number of other causes of early mortality.

3. It will be nearly impossible to get comprehensive vaccine data because vaccines are administered in so many different settings. All that said, it would be GREAT for researchers to have more data linkages with CMS data. It would be useful for many different topics.

The only data for new studies that has been described so far is linking CMS data with EHR and environmental data. 1. This is a lot harder than it sounds, 2. “Environmental data” are mostly going to be representative of a geographic unit (e.g. county) not individual-level data, 3…

And contrary to statements about consolidation, these functions have not been replaced by others at HHS. Maybe they will in the future but they currently just don’t exist.

This is so true. As a remaining CDC-er, the disruption to our work in the programs that remain has been largely been due to loss of many, many types of supporting roles. IT, HR, property managers, grants management specialists, budget analysts. Much has ground to a halt.

These notices were utter bullshit. They fired everyone working on childhood lead poisoning prevention at CDC, entire branches and/or divisions devoted to advocating for people with disabilities and many more. These programs were just dropped with no plans for continuity or an orderly shutdown.

What I want to know is how their algorithm will know what we “should” have been doing? Seeing as this came from OPM, without any consultation from agency leadership, they have no context and 2 million responses with vastly different jobs.

I’m especially angry this came to us on a Saturday. I’ve now spent several hours talking with leadership and the staff I supervise. Want to know what I did last week? Spent too much fucking time talking about shit like this than doing my actual job.
