This 100 times. Everything is only about power-grabbing. Nothing was ever in good faith and trying to engage with them with the benefit of doubt is severely restricting our capacity to defend democracy and the English language that's essential to our thoughts from their disinformation pollution.

I don't even have to imagine. I could just look at other dictatorships. Or the states where child "marriage" is legal

I should think that's exactly what white supremacists do.

Because funding cuts famously don't affect education🤦‍♀️I just can't...

And wtf even is immigration fears? How are some* people trying to live up to the best of their potentials like everyone else would want to some sort of threat?

For whom exactly are we still trying to pretend that they have a conscience like ours? We already know that they and their cultists don't accept facts and can't be reasoned with. Surely we can do wake up from this level of wishful thinking by now.

I know what "susceptible" means and thank you very much for your reminder that "alignment", not even "full alignment", promises less binding effect and accountability than accession to the EU regulatory framework.

What did they cave in on? Up the defence spending that's necessary against Russia anyway? Last time I checked, the fines against US tech platforms are still on. And they aren't the one privatising their health data or with food standards susceptible to manipulation.

Aren't the entire political class always terrified of upsetting major media group/platform owners?

I think it's less "elite complacency" than our desperate self-placating over "political class complicity".

It's not about what they "believe". They don't mind lies on their side. And they are fine with fascism and economic losses as long as immigrants and minority groups "get it worse". And actually the greater their loss, the more they want to inflict pains on minority communities. Look at US farmers.

The same reason elected Democrats are almost reluctant to even appear uncooperative in an active fascism takeover.
I think it's long past due that we accept this difficult reality: their quality of life won't be significantly affected by a fascism takeover. But actually addressing the inequality and fixing the system will, and that's what they're really fighting against.

"Arab states" can be as diverse and infighting-prone as it gets. And they don't all claim the "arab identity" as their primary identity, if at all. Had it been an age of peace, it'd be just as delightfully interesting as banters between European identities. But instead it's exploited for proxy wars.

You'd be surprised how many people really don't have any problem with it at long as their government tells them it's in the name of "patriotism".
