My school is just grades 7-8 and I teach 7th grade so to some degree they didn’t know any different. I know the 8th graders were grumpy about it. Consistent communication over the summer helped, esp communicating to parents the reasoning

Huge factors that went into success: admin-led but 100% teacher buy in, lots of staff discussions on keeping it nonconfrontational (if student has it out and won’t put it on my desk, email admin and they have convo with student)
