Our cat Scotia Jones died last night. She lived at least 20 years and we had her for 18 of those. Born in East LA, we took her with us to Seattle, Woodinville, and Spain. She wasn't a very nice cat but she had a comfortable life and the chance to be annoyed by so many things. So long, old friend.

I read exactly one book last month. Fortunately it was a good one. In other news, I managed to watch 105 horror films. These are my October priorities.

The pretentious coffee shop that doesn't know how to degass their beans just got even more pretentious.

Another slow reading month in September (life outside the pages got pretty busy). Still, I got to read American Pastoral, and I thought it was a masterful novel.

July was a great month, but not for any time spent reading. I only managed to finish a single book, and a light one at that: Flashman's Lady by George MacDonald Fraser.

My son uses a set of bedsheets I kept from my childhood and they're so awesome. Who knew he would get so into Superman in 2025?
