Jayvik having butterflies be their symbol is so fitting because famously in chinese folklore (literally called Butterfly Lovers in english) are butterflies associated with the idea of lovers eloping together in death, which is pretty much what they did.

in every single one of these scenes he is talking to someone who is much higher in class than he is (or is directly part of the council) and this is just another way he's been taught to show deference and respect to not make himself look foolish btw
