Not All Party Lists Are Created Equal

When people hear “party list,” they worry about losing local representation or giving too much power to political parties.
But there’s more than one kind of list, and some are a lot more democratic than others.

What Is STV and Why Does It Matter?

Single Transferable Vote (STV) is a proportional voting system that lets you rank candidates in multi-member ridings, and gives you a real say in who represents you.

It’s already used in places like Ireland, Malta, and parts of Australia.

What Is MMP and Why Do So Many Countries Use It?
Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) is one of the most widely used voting systems in the world.
It’s already in place in countries like Germany, New Zealand, and Scotland - and it could work here too.

We’ve Had the Chance Before, Let’s Not Waste It Again
Canada has flirted with electoral reform many times.
We’ve had citizen assemblies.
We’ve had referendums.
We’ve had campaign promises.
And every time, just as the momentum built... the people in power backed away.

Proportional Representation Isn’t Radical, It’s Fair.

Right now in Canada, a party can get 39% of the vote and 100% of the power.

That’s not just unfair, it’s undemocratic.

Proportional representation means your vote actually translates into representation.

“Who Are We Building This System For?”
We tell kids to speak up.
To vote.
To make change.
To believe in democracy.

They’ve Been Promising Electoral Reform for 100 Years
This isn’t new.
It’s not radical.
And it’s definitely not just a “Trudeau problem.”
(Even if that name is on the list twice.)

Trudeau Promised Electoral Reform. He Broke That Promise.

In 2015, Justin Trudeau stood in front of Canadians and said:

“This will be the last election under First Past the Post.”

That promise brought hope to millions of voters tired of a system where most voices don’t count.

Canada’s elections aren’t fair by design, even when they seem like they are.
We use First Past the Post, a system where the candidate with the most votes wins, even if the majority voted against them, and where entire parties can be shut out, no matter how many people support them.

This election wasn’t about hope. It was about fear.
Millions of Canadians didn’t vote for the leaders they believed in; they voted against the ones they feared.
In riding after riding, voters were forced into strategic choices, not honest ones.
Split votes, desperation votes, fear votes.
