The problem is: they've mistaken correlation for causation. They think their parents and grandparents had a good life *because* of manufacturing jobs. When, in reality, their parents and grandparents had a good life *despite* manufacturing jobs, because of unions, high taxes, and social policies.

A NIH Lab Chief is like a department head. They manage multiple NIH PIs within their lab. Stadtman Investigators are tenure-track PIs chosen because their research is considered exceptionally innovative. This RIF eliminates an entire group of labs.

It was stated in the paper that this data collection took place in 2015-2016. The social media landscape has changed quite a bit in those nearly ten years, as well as the amount of screen time used in the classroom. It would be great to see an updated data set post-Covid!
