Here in Sacramento for a training with our 4 new Berkeley City Council members and our wonderful new City Manager. All of us started in 2024. It's a new day in Berkeley!

Berkeley has reaffirmed Sanctuary City status! I'm so proud of the parents, kids, community groups, faith orgs, and Japanese Americans who came to support our council item. We must stand united against policies that seek to cause fear & separate families.

It feels very tense and uncertain here in DC. With the inauguration tomorrow and a snowstorm coming in today, people are on edge. Grateful to be returning to our city.

This morning, we're hearing from a Ukrainian mayor who is sharing his experience of dealing with war in his city. He shared a story of a family who lost their father. Their mother lost a leg, and their daughter lost two legs. Last week, their daughter ran in the Boston Marathon.

Mayor Bibb of Cleveland shares that he sees housing as a great opportunity for nonpartisan partnerships. We all need to work together. It's great to have an opportunity to learn about best practices in other cities around the country.

It's amazing how many cities are facing the same challenges we are in Berkeley. This panel is about our housing crisis, but I've spoken with many mayors about homelessness, protecting our immigrant population, economic vitality, public safety, and much more.

In the conversation about supporting women entrepreneurs, Mayors spoke about supporting through resources, education, grants, and space to help women- owned businesses. Looking forward to bringing these great ideas back to Berkeley!

In the last 5 years, I got married, adopted my daughter, adopted 3 dogs, graduated law school, bought our first house, and became Mayor of Berkeley. Who knows what the next 5 years will bring. Happy 2025, everyone! Wishing you all a happy, healthy new year!

Today, I had the honor of swearing-in my friend, Cydney Chilimidos, to the CA state bar (on their birthday)! 🥳 We've been friends since law school, they were my campaign manager, and now we get to work together everyday for the next 4 years. Congratulations!
