Pushplates on the doors in the restaurant I was in last night. Apparently you can only gain access to the bathrooms if you are The Chosen One.
Instead of a plain flat rectangular protective plate, the push plate on this door looks like poorly moulded metal bearing the deep imprint of a human hand. Pressing my own rather small hand into the mould. My fingertips only come up to the second knuckle.

Found this at Aldi. Labelled as a (now marked down) "Halloween treat jar".

I'm not sure how it relates to Halloween because I'm not sure exactly what they were aiming for.

Acorn, maybe?

Let's say acorn.
It's a pottery jar, shaped much like an acorn upside down so the cup forms the lid. The lid has a leaf pattern radiating outward, and while the jar as a whole is pale tan the lid has a pinky brown colour fading in from the outer edges to concentrate on a short stalk in the centre... Look, I'm not saying it looks like a nipple. I'm just saying it was possible for it to have looked less like one.

Was asking myself all the way up the final hill to the barrow if I really wanted to be doing this. But the inner chamber had an additional surprise that made me really glad I did; as I looked around the ceiling five pairs of eyes looked back at me from a swallow's nest.
A row of stones acts as a wind block across the entrance of the barrow. If you walk around the barrier you can approach the open entrance to the barrow form one side. The entrance to the barrow, showing the construction of the chamber from stacked slabs. Pairs of vertical slabs form the openings to the two front chambers on the left and right. Further back in the dark are two additional side chambers and a final end chamber. The cave is not entirely dark, as a couple of skylights have been cut through the roof to provide minimal natural illumination for visitors. A poor quality photo owing to the lighting, but it shows the flat top of a slab near the ceiling. On it is a small nest composed of grass and mud, coloured much like the rock and only distinguishable by the fronds of grass sticking out. Facing the camera are five fledgling swallows, with white bellies, dark bluish heads and a red throat marking. They are almost fully feathered but still have the yellow outline around the beak which allows them to be fed in the low light environment of the nest.

Took a long walk round the entire ring then headed south across country past Silbury Hill and toward West Kennet Long Barrow.

I am not in good walking shape, and was thoroughly sore and exhausted by the end of the day.

Used up some days leave recently. Didn't have any plans, but on an impulse I took a day to visit somewhere I haven't been since I was a child: Avebury Rings.

Not a great pic; I look forward to my next phone upgrade and getting a much better camera.

But a lovely spot on my lunchtime walk; seen mice in the wild a few times, but today a rustling beside the path alerted me to what might be my first vole.
A small mouse like animal, no more than 6cm in length, nestled on a leaf in the undergrowth. It's darkish brown, and can be distinguished from a mouse by having a fatter, blunter face with almost no discernible narrowing of the neck.

I took a few pics in haste as I hoped not to disturb him. I was annoyed not to have got the camera level for this one, as it might actually a better pic.

Plus one from the side, where being perched on the railing messes with the perspective and makes him look bigger than he is.
