A place to put my random thoughts as they pop up. Better to send them out into the void than keep them in my head. For me anyway.

Every Friday, I write a menu for dinners for the week. Then, I put together a shopping list and buy all the ingredients I need for the week.

The upsides to this is flexibility. It means tonight I could make tomorrow's supper, because...reasons.

Day 3 and already seeing an improvement. Unexpected. I enjoyed walking in the morning. Once sunrise is at 5, I might shift back to morning walks.

Today was an exception because Jack dropped off the tiny human, and I am fetched him. I was not as tired as expected, but now I am ready to crash.

Day 2. Today was meeting day, so I sat a lot, and I could feel it. Also, I need to curate a playlist. Spotify chose to play my slowest songs when I needed to move faster.

Went to pick up some South African goodies, including a braai pack with Namibian ribeye and boerewors made with Namibian beef, today.

Was also craving mushroom skewers. I marinated them Flippen Lekka seasoning, and they did not disappoint.

Served with miellies, braaipap, and a homemade smoor.

Yesterday's reverse seered lamb shoulder became today's lamb gyros.

3 ingredient pitas, tzatziki, fresh veg to complete the meal.

Namibian lamb, cooked in Germany, served Greek style.

Sore body, sore heart. Chicken soup for the soul and the vessel.

My challah this week was made as a small memorial for the Bibas family. 3 separate challot that grew together and baked into one. My heart is broken for those boys and for their family. May their souls find peace, and may their memory be a blessing for all who knew them.

I had some zucchini I needed to use.

Zucchini and feta quicke with a flaky crust.

Had my language tandem partner over for supper. She is vegetarian so went with one of my favourite vegetarian meals, Sabich.

Of course, I picked the warmest (13°C) day of the week to make soup 🤣

No matter, though, because I could eat this "Choke me" chicken and Gniocchi soup in any weather.

It's really simple to make, and so morish. 10/10 recommend.

Yay! I won't be woken up at 2am by random scritching and scratching in my house anymore.

The perfect night for a warm bowl of mild curry.

Regardless, it was comforting and flavourful. I loved the smells at the different points of cooking (I think spices fried in ghee may be an aphrodisiac). Fluffy rice to serve, rounded it up.

Not the best picture but one of the best combos, especially on a cold and rainy evening.

Ash e-Jow recipe I found on @thekitchn.bsky.social, after seeing a reel by The Iranian Vegan

The smells in my kitchen tonight were enchanting. The toasting spices, the freshly chopped herbs. Everything came together in the end.

I was skeptical about the dried mint, I was so wrong. 🍽

One pan meals are always a win for me. This one has a few steps but really simple ones and no chopping involved.

Lemon garlic potatoes with spiced coated chicken and green beans.
