Waste heat isn’t “free.” Capturing, moving, and upgrading it adds cost and complexity—making every project custom. That kills scalability.

We need air-sourced, factory-built heat pumps: modular, repeatable, and fast to deploy.

Industrial heat pumps are critical for electrifying industry—but decades of chasing waste heat have kept them stuck in bespoke, non-scalable projects.

It’s time to rethink the path forward. 🧵👇

Another day of boring 24/7 boiler operation at a customer site.

It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.

Between steel tariffs, Canadian import tariffs and OPEC pushing down global prices, it’s been a tough week for American Energy Dominance.

On a cold Colorado morning the AtmosZero team turned on Boiler 2.0 and happened to do something that has never been done before.

All in a day's work.

Now we're cookin'.

Thrilled to see my former ARPA-E colleague and friend, Conner Prochaska, tapped to lead the agency.

I mean this is fine. “Resilience” speaks more to action than the passive “change”.

And as some more backing for second point (no need for heat pumps above ~225C)… that’s where thermal storage like Rondo/Antora/ETS/etc really start to emerge as the key competitor and winner above 300C. With conservative e- price assumption thermal storage beats HP due to low COP at that temp

Apologies for the self-reference to what we do at AtmosZero, but this below chart should shed some light on this issue…

TLDR: Very little need for heat pumps above 200C. The higher the delivery temp the lower the COP. The higher the CapEx:COP ratio the less likely that it’ll play a role.

Torn between being excited to see thermodynamics in the lede and going off on a rant of “well technically thermodynamics is only useful to describe equilibrium systems, of which a cast iron over heat decidedly is not…”

Quite the dust-up online about planning for 10% natural gas back-up to enable low cost off-grid solar data centers.

Just wait until the purists hear about how much NG and other fossil inputs will remain in a post-net-zero industrial sector…

Great and thoughtful report.
