We 100% would ban junk food ads, Rob - and we'd go further by banning ALL advertising in public spaces. The world's a beautiful place, why do we willingly allow it to be plastered with adverts for things we don't need?

We sometimes criticise Cardiff Council on this account, but credit where it's due. Their efforts on tree planting over recent years have been exceptionally good, and it's wonderful to see so many young trees in our parks and green spaces. More of this, please!

We've written to the council's Cabinet Member for Parks to ask what steps can be taken to prevent the annual despoilment of our city by unwanted, unnecessary and unsanctioned advertising by a company already making a profit from an event on OUR land.

It's the time of year when these appear again, without permission, on public land, and rarely removed afterwards by the organisers (despite their promises).

Such a weird advert. Is this basically just "buy bread"? Paid for by the Break Marketing Board? Big Bread? And given that most of us already probably buy the amount of bread we need, what value is this adding to the streetscape?

The answer lies in planning law and 'amenity'.

If your area is 'pleasant' or 'attractive', you can argue that adverts would make it worse. But if your area isn't, the argument won't land... Meaning your area gets made even less pleasant and attractive by having more adverts dumped there. 🤯🤯🤯 [2/2]
