At its best, adult social care helps us live meaningful lives at home and in our communities.

4 in 5 of us are likely to need support in our lifetime because of things like illness, age, or disability.

Social care affects us all.

New #CareCantWait story!

Jacqui cares for her son Joshua, who has Down syndrome & autism, and now also needs support herself.

Getting the right support hasn't been easy, but having choice & control over their care has made all the difference.

4 in 5 of us will need adult social care in our lifetime.

Yet, without the glue of social care, lives are falling apart.

Long waiting lists, low staff levels, people reaching crisis point.

Together, we can change this.

Directors have reduced prevention spending by at least 10 percent our #SpringSurvey2025 shows. ASC needs to be adequately funded to allow for investment in preventive measures that improve outcomes for people, carers & councils’ finances.

Our annual survey shows Directors overspent on their budgets last year. This has an impact on the choice and quality of care and support available. It leaves less money for prevention that would likely improve outcomes for people. See our report www.adass.org.uk/documents/adass-spring-survey-2025/

To deliver good outcomes for people, the shift into communities must be adequately resourced and planned. Read more about the impact of NHS pressures on adult social care in our full report on pages 38 – 42.

After a serious fall, Margaret didn’t just recover, she regained her independence.

Six months on, she’s driving again, doing her weekly shop, & baking cakes, all thanks to the support of social care.

Margaret's story is a powerful reminder of why #CareCantWait

The case for prevention is clear, but the path to preventative services and supports is not straightforward. It is difficult to invest in better long-term outcomes, when short term savings need to be made and immediate needs for care and support have to be met.

Our new survey showed the financial challenges councils face as more people draw on complex social care. We warned that without adequate funding for adult social care, the Government’s ambition to shift from hospital to community won’t be realised.
