Alt: Neville Chamberlain (British Prime Minister 1937-1940) He is best known for his foreign policy of appeasement, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, ceding the German-speaking Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany. Just to be followed by the invasion of Poland in 1939. After Munich, Chamberlain waved with an agreement that said that Hitler should have the Sudetenland in exchange for Germany making no further demands for territory in Europe. Chamberlain said it was “Peace for our time!”. Advocating for appeasement of German demands, just to be proven wrong a short while later. This is often taken as proof that appeasement never works, and that it only delays the necessary actions.
