I was trying to think. I've definitely bought them in Uniqlo out there. A quick check of photos from well attended festivals show a few exposed legs in the height of summer (see the photo, if the resolution is good enough)

Find out what local festivals are happening nearby. They can be spectacular. There are some huge fireworks displays in summer, too. Otherwise Kyoto, Hiroshima and Miyajima are probably my favourites on the typical tourist route. たのしんで！
